Optimal transport and Kinetics Applied to Socio-Economics conference

Université Toulouse 1 - Capitole (1-3 September 2010)

The 2010 "Optimal transport and Kinetics Applied to Socio-Economics" conference aims to bring together mathematicians studying modelling in socio-economics and economists using partial differential equations (PDEs). The conference will be held at Université Toulouse 1 - Capitole on 1-3 September 2010.

Successful collaborations are fast growing between economists and mathematicians from the mean-field/kinetics and optimal transport communities, and the recent applications of PDE models to economics and social sciences are extremely promising. Interactions between the optimal transport community and economists have led to different conferences. At the same time, the mean-field/kinetics community met to take stock of socio-economic models in Orléans (2007), Vigevano (2008) and Edinburgh (2009). We hope that this new gathering of the three communities (optimal transport, kinetics and economics) will bring further impetus to these collaborations.

The conference will mainly focus on the following recently developed topics

  • Contract theory: incentive theory, principal agent problem, complex organisations, mechanism design,
  • Mean field games: bubble formation,
  • Models for crowd motion: swarming, flocking, congestion, models for local and nonlocal interaction, panic models, pedestrian flow in presence of a target,
  • Urban economics: facility location, hotelling problem, city dynamics, transport networks,
  • Opinion formation: mean-field PDEs models of both social and political phenomena,
  • Models for wealth distribution analysis: Pareto, Boltzmann and Fokker-Planck-type models, taxation, redistribution, regulation.
The workshop will consist of plenary talks of 45 minutes each plus 15 minutes for questions. The schedule will leave time slots for discussions and interactions among the participants.
